[Update: Formula Wincars recently changed its names and is now known as Wincars Racer.]
I have never been one for racing games (mostly because I suck at them), but I have on occasion enjoyed some fun console multiplayer racing with some friends. You know what I am talking about. Those lazy Saturday evenings where everyone gets together in some guy’s living room with a stack of pizzas and plays one of those cartoony brake-turn-bash-zoom-get-the-hell-off-of-my-track racing games with funny looking cars and drivers. Great fun and great laughs. Formula Wincars is hoping to capture that same kind of vibe for the PC, although in an online format, and the Formula Wincars beta registration is live and waiting for you to sign up!
Formula Wincars from DragonJam Studios looks like it could be a helluva lot of fun from what I am seeing in the gameplay video and reading about online. The entire game is designed for lots of multiplayer action, including 4-person co-op racing in 4v4 team matches, and even a built in tournament system in which 4000 players will compete simultaneously! Sheesh! I should also mention that the co-op 4v4 mode will also include MOBA elements (is no genre safe from the MOBA influence?) and each team can upgrade and share special skills.
Speaking of skills, it sounds like each driver will have their own set of unique abilities that you can take advantage of during the race as you attempt to edge out your opponents. These skills can be leveled up and boosted with power ups during the race. And, just like its ilk, Formula Wincars will feature lots of secrets and short cuts to discover on each race track that savvy players will want to take advantage of.
All in all, Formula Wincars looks like it could deliver some hilariously fun racing gameplay, and I recommend that you head over to the Formula Wincars beta registration page to sign up for the closed beta down the road. It appears that the game will be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Check it out!
